MACS application

The 新光大道 had expired. The feeling of the express queue is like a star walking on the red carpet ( without waving hands at your fans/supporters).

The normal proceduce would be just renewing the pass before crossing the causeway.

Over the weekend ( 9th Jan 2016), the moment i stepped onto the Malaysia’s custom, the office was in pit black and there was a banner just right outside of it. As usual, the custom was chaotic. The huge army of people right in front of us. I quickly snapped a picture of the banner and joined the queue.

“Damn, this gonna take at least an hour”

Having no choice, B had to join the queue with me. I took out the photo to have a second look.
“So, they have a office in Singapore now? Does that mean that the fee going to be charged in SGD?”

B :” definitely”

Feeling helpless without data access, i tried googling for more information on the relocation when i am back home.

In summary

  • MACS can only be done in Singapore unless you have properties in Iskandar, you could do that in JB.
  • Your passport needs to be valid for 2 years before it expires
  • You have to apply it in your physical self personally. You can’t bring all your 祖宗十八代 passports and submit on their behalf.
  • Bring your IC
  • It’s going to cost you SGD 35 ( yes, it’s stated on the vendor’s website, $15 goes to the Malaysia’s government and the balance goes to the service fee of the vendor. Hey, at least they are honest about it).
  • You need a HARDCOPY of passport photo.
  • You could only apply during working hours ( 830am-430pm). Applications received/ processed before 2pm, you could pick it up the following day (730pm – 9pm, yeah to afterwork hours, skipping dinner to collect the passport …).
  • Your passport will be kept by them for 1-2 days depending when you submit the applications.

Here am i, updating this at MEVAS, the one stop center. Reached around 940am, and most likely i need to wait for at least 2 hours? The poor staffs have to endure with all the anger from the public when they are just paid to service the applications. I think i see at least 1 in 4 applicants making noise at the counter.

Oh well, CNY is coming, just want to get this done to avoid the queue and hope that they will starts doing the MACS application back at the custom again. Meh.

Renovation woes.

Who doesn’t get that when they do renovation for their new nest? Either you do not care what the ID (interiors designers) deliver or just filthy rich that you engage the top notch players.

Either way, our home is going to be completed soon.

The contractor called us up last week and said everything was done and able to do the hand-over.

B was really sceptical and we purposely went to our new place to take a look.

It was horrible.

What we saw:

    • The paint works were badly done especially the corners. I do not remember asking him to paint wavey paintwork at the cornerS. This happen to all corners.

His excuse/explanation:
Lousy walls done by HDB.
His workers 看心情 and unfortnately we were the suay ones who kenna their bad moods. He told us he came down to take a look the day before but did not notice that because these can be easily handed by his workers.

    • crackling sound from the MBR fan but not the CBR

His excuse/explanation:
The fans were bought by us (KDK from Malaysia) and not from him. Same fans and one with crackling sound. He said same guy installed and same installation method. Ok, I cannot say much since I know nothing about the installation. Anyway, he got his man to reinstall the fan and it’s fine now. So, the problem was not the fan.

    • paint stains on the tiles, switches and skirting

His excuse/explanation:
He said these were small little things. Hello… You called and told me it’s ready to hand over and those minor yet super obvious stuffs not even cleaned up? What kind of hand over is this?!

    • laminate was not done properly, the side of it totally chipped off

His excuse/explanation:
So the contractor claimed that he was more concerned on the carpentry and this still happened. What a joke. B pointed out to him , he made some fuss but still get that done , but ended up some faults at a non visible area.

One mistake we made was we already made 95% of the payment that was we have no control over him. Please look out for the payment terms in your quotation. Best would be to have the last payment to be 15% or more.

Another thing was that push your contractor and ask him what he is going to do next and set a timeline. If not what you going to get is “rubber time” and endless delay. Stress him that you are aware what is going on and what you are expecting to see accordingly to the timeline. I believe a good ID or contractor would have done this. If he’s good , definiey have a lot of customers so ultimatley he also do not want to waste his time too.

Good luck for your renovation!

CAD cafe

Hidden almost at the end of Haji lane (depends on where you come from). There’s this CAD cafe ( with cute baristas) and also excellent coffee. I do not really know how to appreciate coffee but the latte ( by the way i only drink lattes) that i ordered did not taste that bitter or erm acidic(?). I can still taste bit of the sweetness from the milk in the latte too (wonders which brand they are using?)

Birthday brunch at kith cafe (park mall)

B had been trying hard to search for nice brunch on my birthday.

And here we were at kith cafe!

Reached about 10am and it was a bit crowded but nonetheless we still got seats in the cafe.

20131013-174435.jpg

Ordered 2 sets of their big breakfast ($16.50 each) and you get choose the type of bread (e.g. white, sourdough,wholemeal..) (2 slices) and how you want your eggs to be done (sunny side up , omelette…).

It also comes with sautéed mushroom, a bratwurst , bacons and half grilled tomato!

We chose sourdough for our bread and B chose sunny side up and omelette for myself.

And of course not forgetting their signature coffee!

Breakfast with good coffee

“Where can I get brunch with good coffee?”

That was what B asked in the morning before we made our way home to Malaysia

“Hmmmmm CSHH? And 猪杂汤 for brunch?

That was what I can thought of

“How bout we go trying out the whole day breakfast at Loysel’s Toy? ”

Why not?

Here we arrived at the cafe.

The usual. His macchiato and her latte.

20130831-211122.jpg

We ordered 2 sets of Big L Breakfasts, for ladies I suggests to share one set and probably order another toast or salads to go along. It’s really too much for one.

*apparently the shortest way is to head towards the bridge but currently it’s under maintenance .*

OOT : photos taken on iPhone, edited using snapseed on ipad. I’m really in love with my ipad!

Chye Seng Huat Hardware (but’s a coffee joint!)

random46random30My friend introduced Papa Palheta to me after i told him that i am getting sick of Starbucks and Coffeebean. My first impression after tasting their “espresso with milk” , i was like “Wow..” probably i will talk about this in detail in another post.

However , today i will be writing about Chye Seng Huat Hardware (mentioned in other blogs that they are the same owners as Papa Palheta) . We have decided that this is our favourite joint the actual plus point is that  it’s more convenient for us to get there too!

i do not know what should a real coffee taste like as i am a latte lover. Somehow i feel that the coffee is not that bitter so i can drink it without adding sugar but B said i like coffee-flavoured-milk and not coffee with milk -_-.

But now it’s getting too popular thus you might need to wait for bit for seats during weekends/ holidays. Don’t worry , it’s a worthwhile trip. :) You may or may not like the coffee but end of the day, you will definitely gain the experience of drinking it at an old hardware shophouse.
